The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.by Bob Brauer,President.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
●2023 Wrap Up:Bob asked if there were any suggestions going forward into 2024.It was
suggested that we update our handout for EIAC and distribute it with materials we give out at
Personality,to recruit new members,and at other events as an overview of the EIAC.Bailey
Hunt,new member,volunteered to do this project.
●MEC Project Update:Bob reported there was general discontent about the BOC's decision to
rezone for the Moriah Energy Center.He had received no response to his letters to the BOC
documenting objections to moving forward with the project.He noted no engagement from the
BOC with the EIAC for input on this project.The BREDL organization is ramping up efforts to
fight the project moving forward.
●By-Laws Update,Review and Approval:Bob suggested we table the review and approval of the
by-laws until next month's meeting to give all members a chance to be present and participate.
●Update on elementary school library outreach programs:Cheryl reports that she has found 8
copies of the book selected for EIAC donation to elementary school libraries in Person County.
The book is entitled,"The Three R's-Revise,Reduce,Recycle",by Nuria Roca and Rosa M.
Curto.
●Update on PC Library Children's Books:Cheryl reported that the Person County Library Director
is checking with her resources to assist in finding the number of books we need for donation to
the elementary school libraries.
●CT article plans and status:Bob noted some ideas he has about future articles,including
composting and endangered species list to commemorate its 50th anniversary,and an update to
Adopt-A Highway.He encouraged others to come up with ideas for articles.
NEW BUSINESS:
A.Discussion held on revisiting additional anti-litter road signs -specifically signs documenting fines
for littering to be posted in remote areas where we have a chronic littering problem in Person
County.Cheryl will reach out to local DOT to see what our options are.
B.Discussion regarding need for an annual toxic waste (paint,chemicals,etc.)disposal day.This event
is typically coordinated by Person Industries.Bailey Hunt will inquire through her channels as to
what is preventing a 2024 event.
C.Discussion regarding seeking further information from Duke Energy on coal ash disposal.Bob
will reach out to Beth Townsend to attend a future meeting on this topic.

D.Nancy McCormick brought up our Facebook page and limitations for future use,driven by
county communications guidelines.Bob will participate in a meeting with Nancy and Kim
Strickland on this topic.
E.Discussion on dates for 2024 Litter Sweeps.Consensus was to suggest 4/20/24 and 9/28/24.Bob
will communicate with Lynda Clayton.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.Next meeting is February 1,
2024 at the Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
