Voting Members Present:Bob Brauer,Cheryl Allen,Larry Williams,Bailey Hunt

The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:40 p.m.by Bob Brauer,President.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
●MEC Project Update:Bob noted that the core group of No MEC has filed a lawsuit against the county
concerning the rezoning for the MEC.The project also requires an air quality permit with the
Department of Environmental quality (DEQ).DEQ has indicated that they will hold a public hearing in
Person County prior to any approval.The MEC group meets monthly if anyone is interested in
attending.
●Update on Sheriff ’s Department litter pickup project:Bob spoke with Sheriff Wilborn about the use of
prisoners for litter pickup and was told that there are not enough employees at this time to go forward
with this project.
●Update on School/Library Outreach:Cheryl noted that all books have been distributed at this time.She
noted that the librarian at the Person County Public Library had been instrumental in her finding all the
books needed for the elementary schools.
●Planning for Spring Litter Sweep:Bob encouraged everyone to recruit participants for the litter sweep
on April 20.Everyone is to meet at City Hall to pick up bags,vests,and gloves.
●Updating the trifold brochure:Everyone reviewed the colorful brochure that Bailey submitted.We
proof read it,making minor changes and will go forward with printing,so that it will be available to
hand out at the litter sweep and at Personality.
●Additional Anti-Litter Road Signs:Cheryl reported that Jason Watson,the local DOT Supervisor of
Maintenance,said there were no more signs available as they are not being made at this time.
●Status of Toxic Waste Disposal Day:Bob reported that he had talked with County Manager,Katherine
Cathy about approaching Republic to request funding for the Toxic Waste Disposal Day.Amanda
Everett at the Recycling Center will work with Katherine to take this request to Republic.
●Coal Ash Issue:Bob will meet with Beth Townsend at Duke Energy to get an update on the coal ash
issue.
●2024 CT article plans and status:Discussion on ideas for future articles for the CT newspaper.
Bob will send a draft of an article for the newspaper about the books donated to Person County
Elementary Schools,submitted by Cheryl.Future articles through May have been drafted.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.Next meeting is April 4,2024 at the
Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
