Airport Commission Meeting Minutes 7/11/2024
Members Present: Henry Newell (Chairman), Bob Wilkerson, Gordon Powell, Dusty Wall, Steve Watkins
Guest Present: Stephen Bright, Steve Bright, Chis Bowley, George Courier, Wilson Group Architects
Ex Officio Members: Ray Foushee, Katherine Cathy, Bill Tougas
New Business:
1. Terminal Presentation-Brian w/Wilson Group
*Scheme I
-Build new building on same footprint
-Include current vault in new design
-Add prison area w/restroom
-Allows for 2 additional corporate hangars
-Approx. 6000 sq. ft.
-Upstairs 2250 sq. ft. w/observation area & unfinished new office area
-Could make sidewalk from holding area to ramp
*Scheme II
-Keep existing building & build new terminal building
-Connect by covered sidewalk
-Approx. 5000 sq. ft.
-Same 2nd level floor scheme
-Could always remove old terminal to make room for another corporate hangar 100’x80’ hangar
*Scheme III
-Same set up as Scheme II only change rearrangement of 2nd floor and appearance of building roof
line
-same size sq. ft. as Scheme II
-All have potential for 750 sq. ft. conference room
*Funding Options- Site Prep 90/10, SKIF,
-Talbert and Bright to look into Terminal funding program by the NCDOT/DOA
*Decisions- Do not tear existing building down
-Focus on Scheme II or Scheme III
-Review and provide 4-5 desirable issues /ideas
2. Runway /Taxiway/Apron Rehabilitation
-Closure most likely end August thru end of September
-Do some preliminary surveying in meantime
-35 day closure
-Contractor waiting on lighting material
3. Runway Extension Project
-Draft EA to State/FFA & gather comments & feedback
4. Access Road Rehabilitation
-Continue design
-Work with GEO Tech to reduce cost options
-Potential bid date in Sept 2024
5. Authorized Personnel Only
– need signs for new hangar and for the access road
6. Rules & Regulations-under revision
7. STI Project for Box Hangar/Taxi lane
-Information has been submitted for scoring
-Scored by 50% State DOA
-25% DOT Division Engineers
-25% Local RPO
-Results June 2025
-Locate on far side of open “T” Hangar pad.
