Voting Members Present:Bob Brauer,Steve Evans,Cheryl Allen,Bailey Hunt,Sammy Clayton
Others Present:Nancy McCormick
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.by Bob Brauer,President.
A quorum of voting members was present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
●New Member:We welcomed our newest committee member,Sammy Clayton,representing Mt.Tirza
township.
●Fall Litter Sweep:We agreed to hold the fall event on Saturday September 21,2024.Bob will notify
Lynda Clayton who coordinates the effort for the City of Roxboro.Bob will also ensure that a ‘save the
date’note gets posted on the Friends of Person County Environment FB page.
●Personality Festival:This year ’s Personality Festival is scheduled for Saturday October 26,2024.Bob
will find our further details on the possibility of getting a complimentary booth space as we have been
able to in the past.
●MEC Project Update:Bob encouraged others to go to the NoMEC.org website for information on their
activities.At this point a clean air permit has not been obtained,so no construction of the actual plant
has started.Land clearing has begun at the site resulting in sediment runoff and prompting our June CT
article on sediment pollution.Also there is a lawsuit that’s been filed against Person County regarding
the zoning change for the land.
●Household Hazardous Waste Day:This event is scheduled for Saturday September 7th,2024,from
9am-12pm and will take place in the parking lot of DSS/Health Department.Volunteers will be needed
to assist with this event.
●Coal Ash Issue:Bob will continue in efforts to talk with Beth Townsend at Duke Energy to get an
update on the coal ash issue.Everyone is in agreement that this issue still remains relevant and
important.
●2024 CT article plans and status:Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT newspaper.

o June -Sediment Pollution -Completed and ready for publication
o July -PFAS chemicals -planned
o August -Household Hazardous Waste -planned
o September -Coal Ash -planned
o October -TBD
o November -TBD
o December -TBD
Since our July meeting will fall on July 4th,it was decided that our meeting for July is canceled.Any needed
article review can be handled via email.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.Next meeting is August 1,2024 at the
Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
