09-13-2023 Meeting Minutes JCPCPerson County JCPC Meeting Minutes September 13, 2023 Members Present: Charles Harvey, Nicole Grant, Teresa Burch, Ron Anthony, Ashley Stone, Richard Johnson, Katherine Cathey, J. Stultz III, Kelly Foti, John Hill, Laura Sharpe Providers & Community Members Present: Ronnie Dunevant, Alexandra Kam, Courtney Jackson, Genella Montabano, Lisa Palmer JCPC Consultant Present: none Members Absent: Alisa Black, Louise Oliver, Elizabeth McCoy, Ricky Hughes, Aron Lappin, Kyle Puryear, Vacant (Person under the age of 18), Vacant (Under 18, State Youth Council Member), Vacant Juvenile Defense Attorney I. Call to Order The TEAMS meeting was called to order by Charles Harvey. II. Guest Speaker Lisa Palmer, Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Piedmont Community College spoke to the group about the different programs available to the community. III. Approval of Minutes Meeting minutes for May 10, 2023 and June 14, 2023 were approved (motion by Katherine Cathey and 2nd by Judge Stultz). IV. Program Updates Program updates were given by Courtney Jackson and Lexi Cam. Ronnie Dunevant shared that Roots & Wings met with the school system ad SROs to educate them on Roots & Wings services in an effort to build referrals. He also shared a success story about a young man that was fast tracked through the teen court program in order for him to enter UNCG on time. V. Chief Court Counselor Report Nicole Grant, Chief Court Counselor provided the monthly report VI. Consultant’s Report Dawn presented information on behalf of Eddie Crews: • Person County is in a two-year funding period • The department continues to stress Safe Storage of guns to prevent gun violence. Ronnie was given 100 gun locks for distribution but can try to get more if anyone interested. • New Juvenile Justice residential facility for 40 males will be opening in October in Caswell County. The youth will need to be court referred and on supervision. • NCJSA Conference is October 4-6 at Embassy Suites in Greensboro VII. Old Business FY 2024 Officer nominees: Chair, Martha Pickett and Vice Chair, Charles Harvey A motion was made to approve nominees for FY 2024 officers by Judge Stultz. A second was made by Nicole Grant and the motion was unanimously approved. VIII. New Business FY 2024 meeting schedule -The group has a discussion regarding the continuation of virtual meetings. It was noted that most county operations are in-person and that 6 of the 8 JCPC groups conduct in-person meetings. Individuals that work out of town prefer the virtual platform. Katherine Cathey noted that it would good if members would meet face-to face and providers could attend virtually to present reports. John Hill will check on a room at the Kirby and County Office Building for availability. A motion was made to conduct hybrid meetings by Nicole Grant. A second was made by Judge Stultz and the motion was approved. A reminder to submit your Conflict of Interest Forms. Brochures: The approved amount for brochures included the total price. The total included different price point amounts. If any program is interested in creating a separate brochure, please let Dawn know. IX. Announcements Courtney Jackson announced that teen court volunteers are manning a booth at Relay for Life. She will also ask if anyone at the Chamber can distribute gun locks at Relay. X. Adjournment John Hill made a motion to adjourn. Ron Anthony seconded the motion and the meeting adjourned. Next meeting October 11, 2023.
