Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Martha Pickett. II. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Charles Harvey to approve the April 2024 meeting minutes. Beverly Cates seconded and the motion passed. III. Consultant’s Report Mr. Crews extended a Thank You! to Martha Pickett and Charles Harvey for serving as Chair and Vice Chair over the years. He also reminded all members to submit a conflict of interest form as soon as possible. Other announcements include: • An RFP will need to be completed this year for state funds • Continue to push safe storage (gun locks, etc. are available) • 16 and 17-year old youth with A-E felonies are no longer processed as juveniles, they will still be housed in Juvenile Detention. Goes into effect December 1, 2024. • Reviewing Final Accounting Reports • Perquimans and Rockingham counties opening up detention centers, Eckert in Yanceyville is still planning to open V. Chief Court Counselor Report Report attached. Ms. Grant expanding on the consultant’s report stating 16-17-year-old youth with F or G felonies will still come to juvenile justice, but will be automatically transferred to adult status. She also stated the vacancy rate has dropped and Person County has only one vacant. VI. Old Business VII. New Business The Chair opened the floor for nominations for Chair and Vice-Chair. Beverly Cates volunteered for the chair position and Richard Johnson accepted the Vice-Chair position. Both positions were unanimously approved. Charles Harvey thanked Martha Pickett again for her service to the JCPC Board. Martha Pickett brought up the subject of providing lunch at future meetings to help with participation. Mr. Eddie Crews noted that most all JCPC groups provide lunch. Martha Picket made a motion to provide lunch for the meetings using $500 of available administration dollars. Ms. Nicole Grade seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The FY2025 calendar was discussed and decided to continue with the 2nd Wednesday of every month except July and December. It was noted that the bylaws state that you must have six meetings per year. VIII. Announcements Ms. Laura Sharpe announced an upcoming training: Child and Family Team Meeting Training (How to interact with Youth and Families) October 14-15, 2024. If questions, email Laura @ laura.sharp@vayahealth.com. Ms. Sharpe also asked if anyone knew of upcoming events for families in need of school supplies. Many events were noted, including TKO (Terry’s Kids Outreach) and one and the housing authority. Kelly Foti will send specifics on the housing authority event. IX.
