Center),Bailey Hunt (PC Recycle Center
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.by Bob Brauer,President.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
●Duke Energy Update: Bob introduced Beth Townsend,County Liaison from Duke Energy and
invited her to give an update on plans for the future of the power plants in Person County.She
discussed the transition plans for Duke to eliminate coal burning in its local plant.
●Personality Event Debrief:Bob reported a good turnout for the Personality event and thanked
everyone for their time and efforts to talk with people and hand out materials on environmental
and recycling issues.New members were recruited as well.
Suggestions were made for next years Personality event:1.)Members wear nametags;2.)In
keeping with the EIAC mission,some kid oriented environmental activity at booth;3.)more
specific information about our committee’s participation in the two litter sweeps each year.An
update to our brochure with our mission statement and activities throughout the year should be
include in handouts.
Bob introduced our guests,who are with the Mariah Energy Center -Elissa Huffstetler and Teresa
Ahrens.They are homeowners in the area of the county where Dominion is seeking approval for a
gas storage facility.Our guests have organized a group called NoMEC,and are against the
establishment of this facility and educated our committee about the impact to the environment if
this is approved.Bob will attend the PC BOC public meeting on this issue.
●Update on PC Library outreach programs:No new information at this time.
●Update on school library outreach programs:No new information at this time.
●CT article plans and status:Bob is working on an article for this month about food waste.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.Next meeting is December 7,2023 at the
Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
