Voting Members Present:Bob Brauer,Cheryl Allen,Sammy Clayton,
Others Present:Bo Freeman,Nancy McCormick
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.by Bob Brauer,President.
A quorum of voting members was NOT present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
●Meeting Minutes Approval:September minutes approval deferred to November meeting.
●Household Hazardous Waste Day (9/7):The event completed successfully with several EIAC members
participating including:Steve Evans,Sammy Clayton,Sandy Pleasant and Bailey Hunt.Bob will reach
out to Amanda for any available event pictures for publication.
●Fall Litter Sweep (9/21):The event was completed successfully with about average community
participation.The final results are:
●Personality Festival (10/26):All plans are on track for this event.Cheryl provided a sign for our chair
give-away.Bob reviewed the latest draft of the pledge coupon which we agreed to.Nancy will be able
to provide 100-150 copies of the coupon.Bob will obtain additional promotional materials from DOT
and send out a note asking for booth volunteers.
●MEC Project Update:No further updates from the DEQ hearing.DEQs original plan was to respond
within 30-60 days which has not been met.MEC site preparation work is continuing.
●Book Distribution:Cheryl is beginning to look for a new book for possible distribution in 2025.The
Roxboro Public Library is getting a new head librarian.The current candidate is a person named Von
Yeager.
●Coal Ash Issue:Bob was able to establish a dialog with Duke Energy on the subject of coal ash.The
plan is to publish an article on coal ash toxins in October which was agreed to,and a follow-on article in
November on Duke's specific efforts to mitigate the impact of coal ash.
●Solar Farm Projects:We had a brief discussion on new projects possibly being initiated by Cypress
Creek.
●2024 CT article plans and status:Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT newspaper.
o October -Coal Ash Toxicity -planned
o November -Coal Ash Mitigation -planned
o December -TBD
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.Next meeting is November 7,2024 at
the Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
