Environmental Issues Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes
Person County Senior Center Social Hall, 87 Semora Road, Roxboro, NC 27573

Note: Due to an emergency closure of the Senior Center, the meeting was moved to Black Creek Brewery.
Voting Members Present: Bob Brauer, Steve Evans, Bailey Hunt, Sammy Clayton
Others Present: Nancy McCormick, Sherry Wilborn, Holly Miller, Gary Miller
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by Bob Brauer, President.
A quorum of voting members was present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
● Meeting Minutes Approval: September, October, November and December 2024 minutes were
approved..
● 2025 Planning:
o Discussed possible dates for spring and fall litter sweeps. April 12th and September 13th have
been tentatively selected. Bob will send these dates to Lynda Clayton, representing the City of
Roxboro, for agreement.
o Discussed possible HHW day based on consensus that the event is needed and is very popular
with the community. Bailey stated that in order for this event to happen, alternative funding
sources would need to be secured. Bob suggested pursuing funding from Republic Industries.
Person Industries will be driving this potential 2025 event.
● MEC Project Update: Sammy reported that he is seeing significant road damage on Helena Moriah
Road from heavy construction traffic.
● Book Distribution: Cheryl is continuing to look for a new book for possible distribution in 2025
(reported via email).
● 2024 Budget: Plan to spend remaining budget on book purchase and promotional items (additional
stickers). Specific requests to be brought forward at future meeting(s).
● 2025 Budget: Request was made to Nancy to maintain our annual budget at $400.
● Solar Farm Projects: Community meeting scheduled for January 23, 2025 from 6PM to 7:15PM at the
PCC Auditorium
● 2025 CT article plans and status: Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT newspaper.
o January - Clean Water Act
o February - 2024 NC Climate Report Card
Possible future topics: Responsible pesticide usage, Hydrogen power generation, Adopt a
highway update, Super fund site update, Invasive species
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m. Next meeting is February 6, 2024 at
the Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
