Environmental Issues Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

Voting Members Present: Bob Brauer, Sammy Clayton, Cheryl Allen, Holly Emerson, Bailey Hunt
Others Present: Bo Freeman, Harrison Cole, Mike Storch
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Bob Brauer, President.
A quorum of voting members was present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
● Meeting Minutes Approval: February 2025 minutes were unanimously approved with no further
discussion or changes.
● Introduction of guests: Harrison Cole and Mike Storch from Cypress Creek Solar were
introduced.
● Book Distribution: Nine copies of the book “Go Green” were purchased through Nancy
McCormick’ office using available EIAC funds. The books were delivered to Cheryl at the
meeting for holding until a school distribution plan can be finalized.
● Sticker Purchase: Bob completed the purchase of 300 additional ‘Every Litter Bit Hurts’ stickers
for distribution at our public events. A charge of $150 was billed to Nancy McCormick’ office
using available EIAC funds.
● 2025 Litter Sweeps: The Spring Litter Sweep is scheduled for April 12th. Bob distributed the
updated flier via an earlier email and asked everyone to help spread the word about this event.
● Solar Projects:
○ Harrison Cole and Mike Storch provided a detailed overview of their proposed Hyco
Solar project and answered questions from members. This project will require county
approval of an exception to the current county ordinance limiting the size of solar
projects.
● MEC Project Update:
○ No update.
● Microsoft Megasite:
○ Questions about this project are being compiled by the community. Bob will distribute a
list for further input from members.
● Hyco Coal/Gas Conversion:
○ No updates.
● 2025 CT article plans and status: Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT
newspaper.
○ January - Clean Water Act (Published)
○ February - 2024 NC Climate Report (Published)
○ March - Responsible Pesticide Usage (Drafted)
○ April - Adopt a Highway in Person County
Possible future topics: Super fund site update, Invasive species, Clear Cutting Impacts
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. Next meeting is April 3, 2025 at the
Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
