The Board of Commissioners for the County of Person, North Carolina, met in recessed session on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of attending the Fire Chief’s Meeting held at the Parks and Recreation Annex Building.

Chairman Clayton called the meeting to order at 7:30 following the meal provided at the
Fire Chief’s Meeting. The Board attended the Fire Chief’s Meeting to hear input directly from
Fire Departments related to the proposed new fire contract.
Fire Marshal, John Gentry started discussion on the new fire contract by stating fire chiefs have expressed some concerns. Mr. Gentry proceeded to discuss the minimum reporting
requirements and standards proposed in the new fire contract include a report of monthly calls,
proper documentation of reporting requirements, quarterly financial report, department roster of
all personnel, training records, adding dry hydrants in rural districts to attempt a lower insurance rating for the departments and citizens’ fire insurance premiums. By majority vote, the Fire Chief’s voted for the county to use the old fire contract for a period of 2-years with inclusion of
the first responder funding.
RECESS: A motion was made by Commissioner Jeffers, seconded by Commissioner Blalock, and
carried to recess the meeting at 8:35 p.m. until January 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Person
County Auditorium for the purpose of meeting jointly with the Economic Development Commission.
