The Board of Commissioners for the County of Person, North Carolina, met in recessed
session on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. for a joint meeting with the Person County
Board of Education at the Human Services Building.
Members of the Board of Education present included Chairman Gordon Powell, Vice-
Chairman Jimmy Wilkins, Pecolia Beatty, Ronnie King and Vickie Nelson.
Following dinner, Board of Education Chairman Powell thanked the Board of
Commissioners for funding their Capital Projects last year. He said his Board had compiled a
“needs” budget for the current year and after using $770,000 of their fund balance last year, they
have none to use this year.
Mr. Powell discussed schools technology needs, future high school facilities, issues at the
Person High School stadium and long range needs. He said the Board’s five-year CIP has not
been approved to date.
Commissioner Puryear asked if there was available a cost estimate to put computers in
grades 6-12. The Board of Education responded there was not. After further discussion, the
Board of Education agreed to gather such information and make a recommendation back to the
Board of Commissioners.
ADJOURNMENT:
A motion was made by Commissioner Yarborough, seconded by Commissioner Puryear
and carried to adjourn the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
