Environmental Issues Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

Voting Members Present: Bob Brauer, Sammy Clayton, Bailey Hunt, Steve Evans, Holly Emerson, Holly
Forester-Miller, Cheryl Allen
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Bob Brauer, President.
A quorum of voting members was present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
● Meeting Minutes Approval: May 2025 minutes were unanimously approved with no further
discussion or changes.
● Guests/Special Announcements: No guests were in attendance and there were no special
announcements.
● Book Distribution: Latest book selection ready for delivery pending fall distribution plan.
Cheryl Allen is expecting to deliver the books in September.
● 2025 Litter Sweeps: The Fall Litter Sweep is planned for September 13th. No schedule conflicts
were identified.
● Solar Projects: Cypress Creek’s Hyco Solar project was brought before the Planning Board on
May 8th. The Planning Board did not approve their request. Cypress Creek is planning to update
their request and come back to the board at a later TBD date for approval.
● MEC Project Update: Hearing was held May 15th on the request for a new high power line
needed by MEC. Several citizens spoke on this request and made it clear that they were never
told about the need for this line at the time the project was originally approved.
● Microsoft Megasite: No Update.
● Hyco Coal/Gas Conversion: Public hearing schedule for June 12th on Duke Energy’s request to
build the T15 pipeline to support the new gas plant.
● Personality Festival 2025: Discussed participation at the October 4th event jointly with Recycle
Center. Bob will make the request for a complementary booth.
● 2025 CT article plans and status: Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT
newspaper.

○ February - 2024 NC Climate Report (Published)
○ March - Responsible Pesticide Usage (Published)
○ April - Adopt a Highway in Person County (Published)
○ May - Earth Day 2025 (Submitted but not published)
○ June - Person County Timber Harvest (Published)
○ July - Pollinators in Person County
○ August - TBD
Possible future topics: Super fund site update, Invasive species
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Next meeting is July 3, 2025 at the
Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
