Environmental Issues Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

Voting Members Present: Bob Brauer, Bailey Hunt, Holly Forester-Miller, Cheryl Allen
Other Attendees: Nancy McCormick
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Bob Brauer, President.
A quorum of voting members was present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
● Meeting Minutes Approval: June 2025 minutes were unanimously approved with no further
discussion or changes.
● Guests/Special Announcements: No guests were in attendance. Bob announced his
reappointment to EIAC is in jeopardy due to dissenting votes from Kyle Puryear and Donald
Long at the June 16th BOC meeting. A final vote is expected to be held at the next BOC
meeting on July 21st.
● Officer Elections: Our bylaws require that officers be elected at the July meeting. Given
uncertainty about committee membership it was recommended that these elections be delayed
until the September meeting. This recommendation was unanimously approved.
● Book Distribution: Cheryl distributed copies of our selected book, Go Green, along with a cover
letter to members for distribution to our elementary schools during the week of August 5th.
● 2025 Litter Sweeps: The Fall Litter Sweep is planned for September 13th. No further updates.
● Solar Projects: No update.
● MEC Project Update: No update.
● Microsoft Megasite: No update.
● Hyco Coal/Gas Conversion: Public hearing held June 12th on Duke Energy’s request to build the
T15 pipeline to support the new gas plant. Several citizens spoke about concerns including
stream crossings, sediment pollution and the potential for dangerous leaks.
● Personality Festival 2025: Chamber cannot provide a complementary booth and requires $50 for
a member booth fee. This expenditure was unanimously approved. Bob will submit the request
and that an invoice be sent to Nancy McCormick. The Personality Festival is scheduled for
October 4th.
● 2025 CT article plans and status: Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT
newspaper.

○ April - Adopt a Highway in Person County (Published)
○ May - Earth Day 2025 (Submitted but not published)
○ June - Person County Timber Harvest (Published)
○ July - Pollinators in Person County (Ready for submission)
○ August - TBD
Possible future topics: Super fund site update, Invasive species
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Next meeting is August 7, 2025 at the
Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
