Environmental Issues Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes
Person County Senior Center Social Hall, 87 Semora Road, Roxboro, NC 27573

Voting Members Present: Bob Brauer, Bailey Hunt, Steve Evans, Cheryl Allen, Sammy Clayton
Other Attendees: Nancy McCormick, Donald Long, Diara Townes(Environmental Journalist), Kavin Guermi
(SBA)
The monthly meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Bob Brauer, President.
A quorum of voting members was present.
BUSINESS DISCUSSION:
● Meeting Minutes Approval: August 2025 minutes were unanimously approved with no further
discussion or changes.
● Guests/Special Announcements: The following guests were welcomed to the meeting:
Commissioner Donald Long, Diara Townes who is an environmental journalist, and Abdelkrim
Guermi from the Small Business Administration. Bob announced his reappointment to the board
was approved at the July 21st BOC meeting.
● Officer Elections: Delayed until September meeting. A quorum will be required to hold election.
● Book Distribution: Go Green book distribution is in progress. A group photo was taken with the
new book for inclusion with the planned August CT article.
● 2025 Litter Sweeps: The Fall Litter Sweep is planned for September 13th. Bob will work with
Lynda Clayton to update the flier and send it out to everyone for further distribution.
● Solar Projects: Proposed expansion of current ordinance to allow consideration of sites larger
than 100 acres is scheduled to go before the planning board on August 14th. Cypress Creek
Solar is leading this effort.
● MEC Project Update: No update.
● Microsoft Megasite: Bob stated that plans are moving forward to pursue answers to the jointly
compiled list of questions about the MS Megasite. Bob will send the current list of questions to
the EIAC distribution list.
● Hyco Coal/Gas Conversion: No update.
● Personality Festival 2025: The Personality Festival is scheduled for October 4th. Nancy has paid
the booth fee from the EIAC budget. Bailey indicated that Person Industries will participate in
the booth and may be able to help cover part of the booth fee cost. Bob will pursure getting
additional promotional materials from NCDOT.
● Guest Announcements:
○ Diara Townes - Researching environmental impacts of recent Person County
developments including MS Megasite.
○ Abdelkrim Guermi - Represents the Small Business Administration and discussed
resources which might be available to individuals and businesses impacted by hurricane
Chantal. He can be reached at 703-712-2076.
● 2025 CT article plans and status: Discussion on ideas and plans for future articles for the CT
newspaper.

○ April - Adopt a Highway in Person County (Published)
○ May - Earth Day 2025 (Submitted but not published)

○ August - Book Distribution and Fall Litter Sweep (Drafted)
○ September - Solar Overview
○ October - Invasive Species ?

○ December - TBD
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Next meeting is September 4, 2025 at
the Senior Center Social Hall at 5:30 p.m.
