Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Beverly Cates. II. Approval of Minutes (March 2026) III. Program Updates Program updates were given by Roots & Wings and Youth Villages: Roots & Wings (Ronnie Dunevant & Courtney Jackson) Community Service – 3 Life Skills – 4 Teen Court – 1; 4 to be added Parenting Class – served 12; waiting 3 for intake Youth Villages 1 CCA IV. Consultant's Report Youth Villages to return $17,523. The deadline to transfer to other programs is May 1. This amount is over the limit to transfer to Admin. There were several questions regarding the funds: Q: Can the money be used for scholarships? A: No. (no direct services). You could put the money in admin for outreach or programs to use for camps. Q: Can it be used for kids to attend PCC? A: Not allowed to give to an individual family. Q: Can the money be used to provide add-on services such as standalone parenting classes. A: The funds can be used to enhance services that already exist. Ronnie has requests for $15,500: Strategic Plan $8,500 Contract $2,500 Planter Boxes $1,000 Picnic Table/umbrella $200 Classroom chairs $500 Office Supplies $1,000 Teen Court Celebration $300 CS/R, Parenting & Life Skills $1,000 This would leave $2,023 to be allocated to Admin for programs… Beverly asked about the School system needs. Cathy Waugh expressed that the school system works with a lot of at- risk youth. Real need to get youth connected to therapy/programs (restorative practices). Several staff members have been trained in vaping prevention. Cheyenne offered support for at risk youth. She is here to help fill gap and help with resources and support. Michelle Carey made a motion to transfer $12,523 to Roots & Wings to support needs and $5,000 to admin for community initiatives. A second was made by Richard Johnson and the motion passed. The group can decide how to use funds in admin during the May meeting. V. Chief Court Counselor Report Numbers are improving. 15 kids – Person County; 4 Probation; 5 pending intake VI. Old Business VII. New Business: VIII. Announcements Ronnie spoke about the Governor’s crime commission published an article on kids and guns. Ronnie will send out the link. More alarming in rural counties. Gun suicide rates are increasing. Suicide is now #1for kid’s deaths overtaking accidents. Cathy noted that the school system has had an increase in suicide threat assessments. Carmen announced that April is volunteer appreciation month. Let any Guardian Ad Litem volunteers know they are appreciated. Ronnie wanted to express congratulations to one of local youth applicants. She won a scholarship based on submitted essay written about teen court. IX. Adjournment Next meeting will be May 13, 2026 @1:00 pm
